How to Use the Online Whiteboard — Complete Guide

Everything you need to know to get the most out of the Toolaska whiteboard tool.

1

Pen Tool — Freehand Drawing

Select the Pen tool and draw directly on the canvas with your mouse or finger (on touch devices). Adjust the Color picker to change stroke color and the Size slider to control brush thickness. All strokes are recorded in the undo history.

2

Eraser Tool

Switch to Eraser to paint over and remove portions of your drawing. The eraser uses a wide white brush. Increase the brush size for a broader erase area. For precise corrections, use a smaller size.

3

Shape Tools — Rectangle, Circle & Line

Click Rectangle, Circle, or Line to instantly insert a shape at the canvas center. The tool then switches to Select mode so you can drag, resize, and rotate the shape using the control handles. All shapes use the currently selected color and brush size.

4

Text Tool

Click Text to add an editable text object. It enters editing mode immediately — start typing right away. Click outside to deselect. Double-click any text object in Select mode to re-enter editing. Change color and font weight using the color picker.

5

Select & Transform Objects

Use Select mode to click any object and move it by dragging. Use the corner and edge handles to resize. Rotate by grabbing the rotation handle at the top. Hold Shift to select multiple objects. Press Delete to remove selected objects.

6

Undo & Redo

Every drawing action, shape addition, text edit, and object modification is recorded. Click Undo (or press Ctrl+Z) to step backward. Click Redo (or press Ctrl+Y) to re-apply an undone action. The history persists throughout your browser session.

7

Export as PNG

Click Export PNG to download your whiteboard as a high-resolution PNG image (2× pixel density for crisp results). The exported file is named with a timestamp so you can keep multiple versions.

8

Export as JSON

Click Export JSON to save the full canvas state as a JSON file. This preserves all objects, positions, styles, and text. The JSON format can be used for future development of import/reload functionality.
